Thomas University kicks off a new year with convocation

Thomas University faculty, staff and students will start the new academic year with a Convocation set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall on TU’s Forbes Campus.

“The idea of a convocation is having a time when the university community can come together, share ideas and honor some of our most outstanding in their fields of study,” said Dr. John Meis, TU Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This convocation is also a way of welcoming back our professors and students to a new academic year.”

This year’s event will open with an address from the 2018 Professor of the Year, Dr. Susan Lynn, who received the recognition during TU’s annual Commencement in May. Other speakers include two recent doctoral graduates. Dr. Deborah Burch, Assistant Professor of Nursing, will present “Implementation of a New Data System for Maternal Mortality Review.” Dr. Gale Neal, Assistant Professor of Education, will present “Teacher and School Time: Its Use as a Resource to be Allocated, Teacher and Administrator Perceptions, and How it has been Influenced by Test-Based Accountability.”

Also during convocation, TU administrators will present a special honor to a local community leader.

The public is welcome to attend.
