Thomasville Singers

Thomasville Singers resume rehearsals Aug. 30

Thomasville Singers will start rehearsing again for the 2018-19 year beginning on Thursday, Aug. 30. Rehearsals will be held 7-9 p.m. each Thursday in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall on Thomas University’s Forbes Campus.

“It’s just a loving, warm community of people, and we have a great time,” said Nicole Davis, conductor of Thomasville Singers. “We put together a great musical product at the end.”

Sponsored by Thomas University, Thomasville Singers is open to all community members of high school age or older. The only requirements are an ability to match pitch and the desire to improve singing skills.

“You don’t have to have years and years of experience,” Davis said. “You can just be someone who likes to sing, and I want you there because I love the energy and the passion of having people in the room. Most of our singers sang in either church choir their whole lives or maybe they sang in the middle school or high school choir and they just want to have that experience again. People are coming in to de-stress, enjoy themselves and make music.”

The group will hold its first performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Thomasville Center for the Arts as part of the Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) Sundays at Four series. The concert will feature Eric Whitacre’s “Glow” and other pieces celebrating the holiday season.

“I think Thomasville Singers is important because it’s a community outreach for Thomas University,” Davis said. “It allows people to see what this college is able to offer its community and what the community can give back. I believe that Thomasville is full of culture and talented people. This is one more opportunity for people to come out and share their talents and their passions with their family and friends.”
