TU’s New Student Orientation set for Aug. 17

As August gets started, Thomas University’s campuses are in full swing getting ready for students to return.

New residential students will move into TU’s residence halls on Thursday, Aug. 16. New Student Orientation will be held on Friday, Aug. 17, beginning in the gymnasium on TU’s Magnolia Campus, 1550 Magnolia St. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast hosted by the TU Alumni Association.

From there, students and parents will split into two different tracks. Students will remain on the Magnolia Campus and attend small group sessions in the Student Life Center. Parents will attend information sessions on the Forbes Campus, at the intersection of Millpond Road and Pinetree Boulevard.

“We’re excited to have our new students move onto campus and start their college adventure,” said Dr. Robert Bohman, Vice President for Student Life. “They will gain a lot of important information during New Student Orientation. Then during the rest of the Student Activities will have a lot of fun events planned for students to get to know each other and become familiar with everything TU has to offer.”

During New Student Orientation, students and family members will learn about working with academic advisers; using student accounts; navigating Canvas, TU’s online learning platform; financial aid; student life and more.

“We want to make sure parents and students know what to expect as students begin their college careers,” said Courtney Sinclair, Student Activities Coordinator. “Not only do students need to be prepared, but their parents need to be prepared as well. That’s why we structure New Student Orientation in a way to achieve these goals.”

Registration for New Student Orientation is still available at or by calling the Office of Student Life at 229-226-1621 ext. 1077. Registration is required to participate in New Student Orientation.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, TU’s returning on-campus students will move into the residence halls. Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 20.
