FSU organ professor to perform at First Baptist Church

Dr. Iain Quinn – a distinguished organist, musicology professor and composer – will perform at the First Baptist Church of Thomasville at noon Friday, Feb. 23. The concert is part of the Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) Fridays at Noon series. The program will include works by Bach, Rachmaninoff, Hindemith and Quinn.

Born in Cardiff, Wales, Dr. Quinn has held college, church and cathedral positions in the United Kingdom, New York, Connecticut and New Mexico.  Dr. Quinn’s choral and organ works have received several awards, including a fellowship from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust as well as grants from Musica Britannica, Society for American Music, The Prince’s Trust and Music & Letters Trust. Dr. Quinn has been a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University and a Visiting Composer at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge. In the spring of 2017 he was a Fulbright Scholar teaching at the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia. He is currently the Organist and Choir Master at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Thomasville, Georgia.

In addition to the organ, Dr. Quinn has also studied the piano and trumpet. In 1994 he moved to the United States for advanced study of the organ at the Juilliard School, the Hartt School, the University of Hartford, and the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University. In 2009 he returned to the United Kingdom as a doctoral fellow at the University of Durham. Dr. Quinn also holds the diplomas of the Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and the Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music.

Dr. Quinn has presented lectures and conference papers in the United Kingdom, across Europe and throughout North America, including papers for the Royal Musical Association-Society for Musicology in Ireland, College Music Society, and the American Musicological Society.

Dr. Quinn has recorded 13 CDs. His most recent recordings include The Complete Organ Sonatas of C.P.E. Bach.  Dr. Quinn is assistant professor of organ and coordinator of the sacred music program at Florida State University.
