Thomas University plans ACT/SAT workshops

For high school students who would like to know what to expect when taking college entrance exams or how to improve their scores, Thomas University will hold two free workshops on the SAT and ACT on Tuesday, Feb. 6. “Increasing your ACT/SAT scores” will be held at 6 p.m. followed by “First-time test takers” at 7 p.m., both in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall on TU’s Forbes Campus.

Randall S. Vickers, owner and founder of Solution Skills, will present both workshops. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University in the 1970s and was the director of guidance at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida. Vickers later became the assistant director of the Honors & Scholars program at Florida State University in the 1980s.

After starting Solution Skills in 1987, he built the company into a lasting educational resource for area students and families with tutoring, test prep, study skills and college admissions services offered at reasonable rates. Vickers is a Florida licensed mental health counselor and maintains a private practice working with all ages but specializing in adolescents, young adults and families. He also does life coaching and career planning.

In the “Increasing your ACT/SAT scores” workshop, participants will learn how to perform better and improve their scores on these tests through strategic and tactical approaches, pacing and time management, focusing, minimizing careless errors, cognitive habits to maintain and retrieve information, and critical thinking skills.

The “First-time test-takers” workshop will provide an overview of the ACT and SAT, including discussion of test content, similarities and differences between the two tests, effective strategies, tactics and shortcuts.

There’s no charge for the workshops, but registration is required. Register for the “Increasing your ACT/SAT scores” workshop at Register for the “First-time test takers” workshop at For more information about the workshops, contact the TU Office of Admissions at 844-862-6978 or
