Sonification of climate data topic of next TU Science Café

Danny Goddard is a modern polymath — a geologist, teacher, musician, luthier and inventor. He has become known in multiple fields, working across platforms, and in many media including wood, metal, song, shell and computer code.

At the next Science Café on Oct. 31, Goddard will present “The Sounds of the Earth: Sonification of Climate Data” during which participants will be able to listen to 4 million years of the earth’s climate history in less than two minutes.

Goddard is a published scientist and a published songwriter. He currently performs and records with the Americana group The New 76ers. Goddard has won competitive awards from the National Science Foundation and is currently an adjunct professor of Geology and Environmental Science at Florida State University.

Thomas University’s Science Café is an opportunity for conversations with scientists about current science topics. Each event begins with a reception with the speaker in the lobby of Smith-Bonvillian at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, and the public is welcome.
