ACTU to present Seaside Chamber Players Oct. 15

Arts for the Community at Thomas University presents a chamber orchestra concert featuring the Seaside Chamber Players under the direction of Boyan Bonev as part of their Sundays at Four season on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, located at 325 W. Jackson St.

The concert will feature FSU College of Music faculty members Corrine Stillwell and Shannon Thomas Trem on violin, Pamela Ryan on viola and Gregory Sauer on cello. Joining them will be Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra members Caroline Holden and Minyoung Cho on violin, Melissa Brewer on viola and Christian Marshall on double bass, with guest flutist Karl Barton.

“I started this group to perform for the Seaside Institute Festival in Seaside, Florida, and have begun to expand the scope to include as many other venues as possible,” Dr. Bonev said.

The program will feature J.S. Bach's Suite No. 2 in B minor for flute and strings; the “Andante Cantabile” from String Quartet, Op. 11 by Tchaikovsky; and the String Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20 by Mendelssohn.

“These Tallahassee-based musicians are some of the finest anywhere,” Bonev continued. “A traveling group affords them more opportunities to perform the repertoire they love and also allows more people to experience their musical talents in more intimate settings than a symphony orchestra.”

Series coordinator and Thomas University music professor Dr. Karl Barton stated, “I always enjoy the opportunity to perform with other musicians, and the selections include great pieces that should be programmed more often. The sanctuary at Trinity Anglican was designed to include these kinds of concerts. The acoustics and setting are really excellent.”

The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $10. A reception will follow the performance. For additional information email actu@thomasu.edu or call 229-227-6964.
