TU Social Work seniors plan yard sale to benefit Chrysalis Center

A group of graduating seniors in the Thomas University Division of Social Work are partnering with the Chrysalis Center to hold a yard sale on Saturday, April 1, to benefit Chrysalis Center clients.

Chrysalis is a program of Georgia Pines, which provides mental health, developmental disability and addictive disease services. The center helps adults with behavioral health issues develop therapeutic interpersonal skills to be successful in society.

Proceeds from the yard sale will be used to purchase computers that will serve as a resource for clients to become proficient in basic computer skills, such as learning how to use social media accounts, learning to use educational software, and learning to use email accounts.

Thomas University’s Social Work students created this community project to allow the seniors to work together and assist in the interactions between individuals and their social environment.

“We are aiming to encourage social adjustments of various cultures by helping others develop social relationships and decrease the effects of mental illness stigma in our community,” Cherelle Anderson, TU Social Work senior, said.

The community yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Chrysalis Center parking lot, 14244 U.S. Highway 19 South in Thomasville.

The Social Work students seek donations for the yard sale, such as kitchen appliances, dishware, silverware, furniture, electronics, storage bins and other standard items. Any items not sold will be donated to the Chrysalis Center. All donations may be dropped off at the Chrysalis Center. Pick-up is available by calling 229-205-1085.
