Thomas University to hold presidential inauguration Oct. 20

Thomas University will officially inaugurate its 12th president, Dr. James Andrew “Andy” Sheppard, during a ceremony at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the gymnasium on TU’s Magnolia Campus.

Sheppard stepped into the role of TU’s president in early July. He replaced Dr. Gary Bonvillian, who was president for 10 years. Sheppard previously served as provost at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.

During the ceremony, Sheppard will receive charges from representatives for Thomas University students, faculty and trustees, respectively. Guest speakers will include retired Honorable Ambassador David W. Swartz, former ambassador to Belarus; Dr. William R. Merriman, president of Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio, and former president of Southwestern College; and Dr. Beth M. Sheppard, TU’s first lady.

After the inauguration, light refreshments will be served during an open house of the recently renovated Student Life Center on Magnolia Campus. The event is open to the public.
