TU names Bohman VP for Student Life

Thomas University President Dr. James A. Sheppard recently named Dr. Bob Bohman as TU’s new Vice President for Student Life.

Bohman is no stranger to working with college students or to Thomas University. From 1991 to 2006, he served in several positions at TU, including Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Executive Vice President.

“I’m very proud to say that I got my foundation at TU,” Bohman said.

Originally from Covington, Kentucky, Bohman attended Georgia Southern University on a basketball scholarship and received two degrees. At GSU, Bohman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master of Science in Teaching Degree, both in Social Sciences Education. He went on to earn the Ed.D. degree in Higher Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University.

In addition to his previous positions at TU, Bohman also served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Bowling Green Technical College in Bowling Green, Kentucky; Dean of Academic Affairs at South University in Savannah; and President of South University in Tampa.

After retiring, Bohman and his wife, Lynn Blackman Bohman, moved back to Thomasville to be closer to family.

After Sheppard took office as TU’s president in July, he realized the need to have a Vice President for Student Life.

“Bob started his career at TU, and he loves our institution,” Sheppard said. “Moreover, he has the experience to help us build in the area of student affairs. He understands the range of issues, and he has both the time and the experience to guide our existing efforts to build a more robust campus experience for the students.”

Bohman said, “When I came back to Thomasville, I noticed a major paradigm shift in students at TU. There was a much younger student population on campus and living in on-campus housing. I’m just really excited to get back and make a contribution to their lives. It’s important that I reassure students that I’m there for them if they need anything. It’s all about the success of our students.”
