TU events to celebrate Earth Week

Thomas University officials have a series of events planned April 19 and 20 to celebrate Earth Week.

At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, the TU Library will present the TU Talk “Sustainability through building design and operation” presented by Carl Morgan in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall. Morgan, who is experienced with architectural design and project delivery, will speak about building designs that enhance sustainability and energy efficiency.

Tall Timbers Research Station and Land Conservancy will present the “Roaming the Red Hills” WFSU-TV film series at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, also in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom. The films will be introduced by producer Rob Diaz de Villegas and will include a panel discussion afterward. One segment of the series featured the work of TU GIS students on the Ochlockonee River.

On Wednesday, April 20, TU’s Sustainability Committee will host an Earth Day Fair from noon to 6 p.m. on the Main Campus. The fair will feature sustainably minded businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals to help educate the community about environmentally mindful products, business practices and personal habits.

Participating businesses and non-profit organizations include Sweetbay Soaps, Triangle Energy Concepts, Keep Thomas County Beautiful, Golden Acres Ranch, Tall Timbers Research Station, Get Barred Natural Products, Wolf Creek Trout Lily Preserve, Lost Creek Forest, Serenity Acres Farm, Yoburst and Pecan Hill Coffee.

Applications are still being accepted for Earth Day Fair participants. For more information about the Earth Day Fair, contact Joe Newborn at jnewborn@thomasu.edu or 229-227-6903.

Guests from the community are welcome to attend any of the events. There is no charge for admission.
