TU Nursing honor society induction and graduation celebration to feature State Rep. Taylor

Thomas University will hold its nursing graduation celebration and induction ceremony and graduation celebration for the Phi Tau Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom inside Smith-Bonvillian Hall on TU’s Main Campus.

The speaker for the event will be State Rep. Darlene Taylor presenting “Your Nursing Career in the Current Healthcare Environment.”

Taylor is a Republican representing District 173, which includes Thomasville. Taylor has served as a state representative since January 2011. Her career includes working in management of employee benefits, including healthcare plans, as a third-part administrator (TPA) for employers. She previously owned a TPA company from 1987 to 1997, which was then sold to a larger administration firm. In 2001 Taylor, along with her son John, opened Taylor Benefit Resource, Inc. in Thomasville.

Over the course of her career, Taylor has witnessed many changes in the health insurance market and sought to listen to clients and staff in order to develop business plans to fit employers’ needs.

During the ceremony, all graduating nursing students will be recognized and new members of the Phi Tau Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International will be inducted. Membership in Sigma Theta Tau International is by invitation, which is extended to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and professional nurses who have demonstrated superior scholastic, leadership and nursing achievements.

Sigma Theta Tau International is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Founded in 1922, members include practicing nurses, instructors, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and others.
