ACTU to present Dúo Pelliroja on Friday
Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present the flute duo Dúo Pelliroja, as part of the Friday at Noon series on Feb. 19 in the Balfour Chapel on the Main Campus of Thomas University.
Dúo Pelliroja members Dr. Leslie Marrs and Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham have been performing a wide array of repertoire since the 1990s. The two met as graduate students at Florida State University.
“I have known Nancy for some years,” said Dr. Karl Barton, Humanities Division Chair at Thomas University and ACTU Artistic Director. “These two flutists will entertain and impress everyone with their skill. Balfour Chapel is the ideal setting for this type of musical presentation.”
Marrs, a faculty member at Drake University, has performed chamber works from Washington, D.C., to New Delhi and has been a featured soloist with the Bay View Festival Orchestra and the United States Army Field Band. As a lover of contemporary music and the vice president of the Baltimore Composers Forum, Marrs has premiered several works in the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area. She hosts a radio show, “Music from Marrs,”for WHFC in Hartford County, Maryland. Marrs teaches at the New England Summer Camp in Sydney, Maine, during the summers.
Schneeloch-Bingham is a professor at Appalachian State University, where she performs with Harmonia Baroque, an early music ensemble featuring period instruments. Her eclectic taste in flute repertoire led her to explore traditional Irish flute styles. She is currently a founding member of the Irish music band Sunday’s Well and is director of the Hayes School of Music’s study abroad program in traditional Irish music. Schneeloch-Bingham teaches and coaches chamber music at Cannon Music Camp, a comprehensive summer music program on the Appalachian State campus.
Marrs and Schneeloch-Bingham have been featured performers at the National Flute Association’s national convention. They tour annually presenting duo flute concerts as well as team-taught master classes and workshops throughout North America.
The concert is free and open to the public. A complimentary luncheon provided by the church will follow the performance. For additional information call 229-227-6964 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
