ACTU to present Musical Valentines on Sunday

Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present an eclectic program of Gershwin, Sondheim, Rodgers and Hart, DeLaney and Karg-Elert at its annual “Musical Valentines” concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at Trinity Anglican Church.

“We enjoy performing at Trinity because the beautiful sanctuary is ideal for live music,” said Dr. Karl Barton, program coordinator and TU Humanities Division Chair.  “This concert is a great way to spend a Valentine’s Day afternoon.”

The concert will include a composition by local pianist and composer Bill Raiford.

“My composition, ‘You Are The Only Girl,’ was written for a cadet show at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point,” Raiford said.  “Each year the cadets write and act in a show written to be performed 10 days before graduation.”

Raiford will perform his piano composition, a duet, with TU faculty member and vocalist Dr. Karl Barton.

The Valentine’s Day concert is part of ACTU’s “Sundays at Four” series and will also feature performances by soprano Rebecca Fadell, vocalist Lisa Mitchell, organist Mary Louise Ackerman and flutist Lisa Gatherer.

The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per person. A reception will follow the performance. Trinity Anglican Church is located at 325 West Jackson St., Thomasville.
