Cairns named new TU Director of Development

Thomas University recently named Heather Lynn Cairns of Tallahassee as its new Director of Development.

“Having known Heather for many years and being familiar with her work in Institutional Advancement, I know she holds the same ethic and values for development and philanthropy,” said Dr. Grady Enlow, Vice President for Advancement. “Her addition greatly enhances our advancement team at TU.”

Cairns comes to Thomas University with more than 15 years of fundraising experience, most of it in higher education. Before joining TU, she was the Interim Senior Director of Development for the Zoological Society of Florida in Miami.

“This was an opportunity for me to get back into education, which is my passion,” Cairns said. “I grew up in Tallahassee and spent a lot of time in Thomasville. I jumped at the chance to move back to the area.”

Cairns also previously served as Executive Director of Development for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Texas; Executive Director of Advancement for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Miami; Regional Major Gifts Officer at Arizona State University; and Director of Development for the College of Music at Florida State University.

Cairns holds a Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts, all from Florida State University.

At TU her position focuses on major gift fundraising.

“There have been so many exciting changes to the campus over the past several years, and raising funds is so important to TU,” Cairns explained. “Any funds given to the university benefit our students and mission.”
