ACEN reaffirms accreditation for TU’s graduate Nursing program

Thomas University officials recently announced that accreditation for its Master of Science in Nursing degree program and graduate certificate programs in Nursing have been reaffirmed for eight years, which is the maximum length of time possible for reaffirmation, by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

“Accreditation means that our M.S.N. and Graduate Certificate programs meet the rigorous standards established by the Department of Education and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing,” said Dr. Susan Otto, Chair of the Division of Nursing. “Graduates of our programs are assured that our program meets the highest standards for Nursing education. Accreditation is also very important to the public because it assures them that they are receiving nursing care from someone who has graduated from a reputable program that meets national standards for safety and competence.”

The MSN and Graduate Certificate programs in Nursing were established at TU in 2006.  Since then TU has produced more than 100 graduates who are now serving as nursing leaders and educators in South Georgia and North Florida.

“Nurses with an MSN degree are able to advance their careers and obtain positions in either nursing management and administration or nursing education,” Otto said. “This not only results in higher salaries and greater job responsibilities, but nurses with a MSN degree will have a great impact on the quality of health care as the leaders and nurse educators of the future.”

TU currently has 29 students enrolled in graduate Nursing programs, which include the Registered Nurse-to-M.S. in Nursing program, the M.S. in Nursing and Master of Business Administration dual degree program, the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Administration, and the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education.

In addition to its graduate Nursing programs, TU also has the Registered Nurse-to-Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program, which is accredited and approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
