Joel Hastings

ACTU to present award-winning pianist Joel Hastings

Arts for the Community at Thomas University presents award-winning pianist Joel Hastings on Friday, April 17, as the final concert of the Friday at Noon series. The concert will take place in the chapel of the Thomasville First United Methodist Church, located at 425 N. Broad St., Thomasville.

Hastings is Assistant Professor of Piano at the Florida State University College of Music. He was the winner of the 2006 8th International Web Concert Hall Competition and the 1993 International Bach Competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

After his performance at the 10th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas, one reporter designated Hastings the “audience favorite” while another declared, “the kinetic fingers of this young Canadian reminded me strongly of his late countryman, Glenn Gould.”

Friday's program will include selections by Chopin, Liszt, Roger-Ducasse and Carter Pann.

“I am very excited about having Joel Hastings perform on our series,” said Dr. Karl Barton, series coordinator. “This will be a great way to end our ACTU concerts for the season.”

The concert is free and open to the public. A complimentary luncheon provided by the church will follow the performance. For additional information, visit or call (229) 227-6964.
