TU Tallahassee Social Work students donate more than 1,300 towels to new homeless shelter

On Monday, April 6, a group of Thomas University Social Work students presented more than 1,300 towels to the Kearney Center, a homeless shelter in Tallahassee. The presentation was the culmination of the students’ project called “New Towels, New Shelter.” The students surpassed their goal of 1,000 towels. The students are part of TU’s Division of Social Work. Through a special agreement with Tallahassee Community College, the students take classes toward a TU Social Work Degree on TCC’s campus. As seniors in the program, the students are required to demonstrate organizational and practice skills by engaging in a class project that meets an assessed need in the community. “New Towels, New Shelter” is that project. In the photo above, TU student Tameka Hunter (second from right) presents the towels to Jake Reiter (right), Center Director, as the rest of the TU Social Work Students look on. Students who participated in the project include Veneka Brown, Martina Walker, Cheryl Keaton, Tracy Gallon, Temeka Hunter, Quincee Messersmith, Charlotte Rumlin, LaKysha Perkins, Dana Street, Krystina Surgener and Whitney Austin.
