TU’s M.S. Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling named to top 50 list

The website Best Counseling Degrees recently named Thomas University to its list “50 Best Online Schools for a Graduate Degree in Counseling 2015” for its Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Program. TU joins George Washington University, the University of Alabama, Wake Forest University, the University of North Dakota and other notable universities on the list.

The website’s list includes the top 50 programs, which are not ranked but instead presented in alphabetical order. In selecting universities for the list, the author considered regional and national accreditation, preparation of students for licensure exams, data reported to the National Center for Education Statistics, and data reported to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

“These 50 schools set high goals for themselves and their students, and have achieved a high degree of excellence in preparing graduates for practical licensure and further graduate study,” wrote Kirsten Hughes, list author.

This is the second time recently that TU’s M.S. Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling has been named to a top list. In January the website Best Masters Programs named TU’s program to the list “Best Online Master’s in Counseling Programs 2015.”

“The Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program at TU provides students with various options upon graduation,” said Dr. Dede Avery, Chair of the Division of Counseling and Psychology.  “Since we are a reputable and accredited program, graduates have the opportunity to obtain national certification as a Clinical Rehabilitation Counselor and/or a licensed mental health counselor.  This unique program provides students with the skills and knowledge to advance in a high-demand profession.  We have experienced faculty nationwide who are recognized leaders in the field and provide our students with ‘real world’ application in practice.”

TU’s M.S. Degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education and is a candidate for additional accreditation through CACREP, Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Few programs are accredited by both councils.

In addition to the master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling, TU also offers a completely online bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Studies.
