TU student receives UPS scholarship
Adonis Smith, a sophomore Business major from Claxton, Ga., recently received a scholarship through the United Parcel Service (UPS) Educational Endowment Fund, which is administered by the Council for Independent Colleges (CIC) and the Georgia Independent College Association (GICA).
“I was more than thrilled when I found out that I had received this scholarship,” Smith said. “I struggled my freshman year to pay for my education. It feels good to know that my academic excellence has paid off.”
Smith said he was honored and thankful to be chosen for the UPS scholarship.
“The UPS Educational Endowment Fund Scholarship will help pay for books and help provide financial stability,” he said. “It will help me to stay focused on my education, which is the most important thing to me.”
A 2012 graduate of Claxton High School, Smith enrolled at Thomas University in fall of 2012.
“I chose TU to experience Southwest Georgia and to meet a group of diverse students while attending a private institute known for academic excellence,” Smith said.
He attends Thomas University full-time while also working as a work-study student for the Office of Advancement.
Smith is the son of Laura Smith and Darvis Richardson, also of Claxton.
